A native of Melbourne Beach, Florida, Dr. Esaa Mohammad Sabti Samarah is an assistant professor at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock School of Social Work. He earned his undergraduate degree in sociology from the University of Florida and pursued a Master of Social Work at Florida State University, where he specialized in play therapy during his practicum. Samarah worked as a child protective investigator for the Florida Department of Children and Families for two years before returning to Florida State to pursue a doctoral degree in social work.
His research focuses on preventing child maltreatment and displacement, with particular attention to improving clinical judgment in child protection and the impact of school corporal punishment. His work aims to address disproportionality in the child welfare system and the adverse effects of corporal punishment on child safety and school climate.
