Bari Hanafi, Ph.D.
- Assistant Professor of Geology
- Expertise
Dr. Bari Hanafi is an assistant professor of geology who joined the University of Arkansas at Little Rock in 2024. He received his undergraduate degree in geological engineering from the Institut Teknologi Bandung in Indonesia and his master’s and doctoral degrees from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Prior to joining UA Little Rock, he taught undergraduate geology at Rutgers University and worked as a geologist with ExxonMobil Indonesia.
Dr. Hanafi investigates the geometry, mechanics, and evolution of fault patterns in various geologic settings including extensional, compressional, and oblique systems. He also investigates deformation processes associated with salt movement. In his research, he employs multiple methods, integrating seismic-reflection data interpretation, field studies, and scaled-experimental modeling. The results of his research are applicable to various fields including the exploration of petroleum, mineral, and geothermal resources, as well as geologic hazard assessments and groundwater resources.
