Haydar Al-Shukri is a professor of geophysics and seismology at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Currently, he is the chair of the Physics and Astronomy Department. He received his Ph.D. in Geophysics from St Louis University, in St Louis, Missouri, in 1990. He accepted a Research Associate and Visiting Assistant Professor position at Indiana University, Bloomington., Indiana. In 1994 he accepted an assistant professor faculty position at Southeast Missouri State University, and in 1996 he became Staff Scientist of ENSCO, Inc., Florida. In 1998, he joined the Applied Science Department at UA Little Rock as an Associate Professor and Graduate Coordinator. At the same time, he was appointed Director of the Arkansas Earthquake Center. In 2005, he was elected as the Chair of the department and in 2011 was appointed the Associate Dean of Research and Graduate Studies of the College of Science. Dr. Al-Shukri is heavily involved in the public education and community outreach program as related to the risk of natural hazards such as earthquake and flooding. He has published numerous peer-reviewed papers and has mentored several Ph.D. and Master of Science students.
