Dr. Ruth Eyres is an assistant professor of special education at UA Little Rock. She prepares teacher candidates in UA Little Rock’s educator preparation program. Her experience in special education spans 26 years including working in higher education at Henderson State prior to joining the UA Little Rock School of Education, serving as a special education teacher in both the Little Rock and Pulaski County School Districts, and providing special education consultancy for an Arkansas Department of Education grant implemented by the Easterseals Arkansas Outreach Program. Her teaching experience involves working with adult learners and K-12 students with various disabilities including autism, learning disabilities, intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities, multiple disabilities, and dual sensory impairments.
She earned her doctorate degree from the University of Memphis in instructional and curriculum leadership with a special education concentration and her M.S.E in special education from the University of Central Arkansas. She is a Nationally Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) and active on the boards of The Center for Exceptional Families (TCFEF), the Arkansas Subdivision on Autism and Developmental Disabilities (DADD), and the Arkansas Council for Exceptional Children (CEC). Dr. Eyres considers herself a continuous learner alongside her students as she teaches and coaches them to become effective educators across the state. She primarily conducts research in the areas of school team collaboration, inclusive practices, intersectionality, and specializes in training and developing resources to help families, caregivers, and educators provide sexuality and relationship education to youth with disabilities.
