Dr. Tansel Karabacak joined UA Little Rock’s Department of Physics and Astronomy & Department of Applied Science in 2006, after receiving his doctoral degree in 2003 from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) of Troy, NY, and completing a period of postdoctoral research there. He received an M.S. from RPI in 1999, and his B.S. in 1996 from Middle East Technical University, Ankara, Turkey. He currently serves as the interim director of School of Physical Sciences at UA Little Rock.
Dr. Karabacak’s research focuses on the properties and applications of nanostructured and thin film materials. His studies led to numerous awards including American Vacuum Society Graduate Research Award and University of Arkansas Excellence in Research Award, and also to several grants from the NSF, NASA, and DOE. He is the author and co-author of about 120 journal papers, 50 peer-reviewed conference proceedings, two book chapters, four patents, and several pending patents.
