Mission
The UA Little Rock Spanish program provides world-class, student-centered instruction in the languages, literatures, and cultures of the Spanish-speaking world. Our role is to prepare students to become culturally-aware, bilingual citizens who will help lead Arkansas and the region in the 21st century.
Vision
Our vision is to increase UA Little Rock’s reputation as a high-caliber metropolitan university while also bolstering the value of bilingual education in the Central Arkansas area. Second language acquisition has always been part of the liberal arts education. By teaching students to speak, read, write, and think in the Spanish language, their intellectual and creative capabilities are naturally enhanced in all fields of study. We are a halo effect program: the more UA Little Rock students become proficient in Spanish, the more they will grow in all of their other academic pursuits and vice versa.
We see our Major, Minor, and Workplace Certificate programs as indispensable complements to gainful employment opportunities, confident bilingual professionalism, and greater intercultural exchange for Arkansas. We see our program as an intellectually stimulating, socially-oriented, and confidence-building bulwark of UA Little Rock’s future.
