Health Services aims to improve the health and wellness of the university community by providing inclusive evidence-based, quality health care and wellness promotion.
Summary Narrative
Increase access to student wellness and inclusion services
- Participated in new student orientations by having tables that provided promotional items and information regarding Health Services to new students
- Presentation to new student orientation leaders about our services
- Presented to international student orientation (fall and spring) on MMR and TB requirements of the university and information regarding their health insurance coverage
- Participated in Suicide Prevention Walk with Counseling Services
- Health Services RN hosted a women’s health talk in the residence hall this spring
- Provided sports physicals and sickle cell screening to incoming freshman athletes and transfer athletes
- Co-hosted Mythbusters which provided interactive education to students regarding pregnancy prevention and sexual health
- Collaborated with International Student Services and Student Accounts to create new process for payment of MMR and T-Spot testing
- Partnered with the nursing school to provide nursing students with clinical experience giving flu and Covid vaccines
- Health Services hosted a Health and Wellness Clinic in November. Health Services partnered with the Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC) to provide screenings for UA Little Rock’s employees, students, and the surrounding community which included blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose level, and BMI assessments. Also, ARcare provided HIV testing, and the Arkansas Department of Health provided Covid vaccine boosters. Health Services collaborated with UA Little Rock Nursing Department to provide flu shots to those who couldn’t attend the previous flu vaccine clinic.

- Health Services decorated the lobby area in rainbow colors to celebrate Pride month in June.
- Partnered with the Nursing School in October and provided over 498 flu vaccines to the campus community
- Continued provision of specific services addressing women’s health issues and birth control.
- Collaborated with Mid-South and Facilities Management to provide Narcan boxes in every building across campus
- Collaborated with DRC and Counseling Services for a “Wizard of Oz” themed open house in October
- ADH conducted site visit with CDC TB representative to highlight Health Services’ TB screening processes, counseling and coordination of positive latent TB cases
Prioritize compensation, professional development, and work environment necessary to recruit and retain a diverse student affairs staff that is prepared to support a diverse student population.
- Health Services full-time staff have received Safe Zone training.
- Created SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for the front desk area to aid in training new staff and provide a quick reference guide to current staff.
- Created Standard Operating Procedures for duties of the Business Manager
- New HIPAA training set up and implemented by Business Manager
- Updated Health Services budget by handling outstanding invoices
- Updated the Health Services budget by restructuring it to reflect the actual amounts spent in the current fiscal year

UA Little Rock has 16 AED devices in 16 different buildings across campus.
Continuous improvement process
Per Shawn Bayouth in Facilities Management, college campuses are required to have AEDs present where athletic events are taking place and in fitness centers. However, there are no other standards for required locations or numbers of AEDs.

The following items were identified as needing more clarification following the presentation: clarification regarding health insurance not covering 100% of every visit to Health Services, Health Services charging a $10 fee for missed appointments, and MMR requirements for the university. More emphasis will be placed on these items in future presentations.
