artWORKS Lecture: Lisa Geertsen, Metal and Metamorphosis

Lecture: Friday, December 1 at 6 PM, Windgate Center for Art + Design, Room 101

Lisa Geertsen’s process is about making a connection, telling a story, and pushing oneself to make the ordinary into something beautiful. She aims to help others experience these moments and to trigger something within them that sparks a connection inspired by the metamorphic process of working with metal. Geertsen holds an MFA from SIUC. She has been a guest instructor at WVU, the University of Washington, Blue Hell Studios, and Penland School of Craft. She taught at Pratt Fine Arts Center, SIUC, and is currently working as a Sculpture Technician at the University of Washington. She has owned and operated her blacksmithing studio, Firelight Forge, since 2007. Geertsen has demonstrated for various groups nationally in person and virtually for the NWBA and the Metals Museum in Memphis. She was honored to give a presentation for SNAG about the Society of Inclusive Blacksmiths of which she is a founding and active member.
