Depolarizing Within Workshop
September 20, 2023 at 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
The Diversity Council and the Office of the Chancellor are excited to offer two free workshops this fall, facilitated by Braver Angels, that are designed to equip us with the skills needed to bridge divides and foster constructive dialogue.
Our first workshop “Depolarizing Within” offers techniques to recognize and address polarizing behaviors within ourselves and helps us learn strategies to continue conversations with those who have different views. Whether you’re a faculty member, or staff member, this workshop will provide you with tools to enhance your conversations with others.
Goals:
- To engage the campus in skill-building around the topics of depolarization and listening/speaking across differences
- To provide strategies for intervening constructively in conversations between students and faculty/staff about difficult topics
- To learn about the perspectives and experiences of others with who you differ politically
- To learn how to discover some common ground between you and others on a divisive topic
Components:
- Zoom-based (or in-person) Braver Angels workshops – each 3 hours in length. One workshop for each of these topics, unless greater demand.
- Depolarizing Within (DW) workshop
- Skills for Bridging the Divide (SBD) workshop
