Cultivating Civic Engagement Through Art: How Can Art Help Us Reflect On The Past And Engage In The Present

Join us for a panel discussion about art, history, and civic engagement featuring:
Rex DeLoney, artist and educator
Jose Hernandez, artist
James Ross, historian
Jessica Taverna, art educator.

This panel discussion will accompany the opening of the exhibit “Their Voices” at UA Little Rock Downtown. “Their Voices” features the artworks of young artists, who under the guidance of art teacher Jessica Taverna, reflected on the history of the Elaine Massacre. The question of how we can examine the past and engage in the present through art is in the center of this interdisciplinary project.

Join us to meet the young artists, participate in the community discussion, and explore the voices of the future responding to the voices of the past.

Red, white, and gray poster with information and example of student collage work.
