Introduction to Beekeeping

This event is supported by the UA Little Rock’s Campus Garden, Office of Extended Education, and is in partnership with the Pulaski Conservation District.

Workshop instructor and Campus Garden Beekeeper, Peter Stuckey, has been keeping honey bees since 2012. The Introduction to Beekeeping workshop offers classroom instruction from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. followed by optional hive openings at the Campus Garden.

Students will learn the following items:

  • Honey Bee castes
  • Honey Bee life cycle
  • Honey Bee hives
  • How honey is made
  • Honey Bee pests and diseases
  • Types of Honeybee hives
  • Deep dive into the Langstroth Hive
  • Weather permitting, we will open and examine several hives
