Campus Living: Housing Options
University Commons
UA Little Rock has several options for finding your home on campus. Below, we have a break-down of the options for freshmen and upperclassmen. Once you know where you can live, take a look at your options!
UALR Housing
Uploaded by UALR on 2015-06-17.
On the second floor of the University Commons is where you will find the Campus Living Office. Want to receive mail as a resident? You can reserve one of the mailboxes available in this building.
Within this building, residents can also enjoy the Theater Room, the Great Room’s pool tables, foosball tables, and a poker table, as well as the Commons Market, our on-campus convenience store with snacks, an organic selection of produce, and some items for household needs.
All Students
All students have access to comfortable living spaces within walking distance of all their classes. All of your utilities are included in the price for housing. An added bonus? Students have access to wifi for their devices as well as a separate network for gaming. Each student has a Comcast account that allows them to stream tv channels from their devices, which can be accessed on and off campus.
Freshmen
Students who live on campus during their freshman year have the opportunity to get more involved in campus and leadership activities, make lasting friends from around the world, and immerse themselves in the college experience both inside and outside the classroom. Research tells us that students living on campus earn higher GPAs, are more likely to graduate sooner, and have a stronger connection with faculty, staff, and peers in their community. That’s why we strongly encourage all freshmen to live on campus, if possible.
We recognize, however, that some freshmen may choose not to live on campus for a variety of reasons, including financial hardships, medical conditions, or other responsibilities. So, while living on campus is not required of all freshmen attending the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, please be aware that some students who are awarded significant scholarships may have a requirement to live on campus.
- Options for freshmen: West Hall and East Hall

Academic Buildings and Research Centers
Windgate Center for Art + Design
Windgate Center for Art + Design is located on the UA Little Rock campus at 28th Street and East Campus Drive. Currently our newest building on campus, it opened for classes in Spring 2018.
It brings together, under one roof, the applied design program that was located at University Plaza and the art history and studio arts programs that were in the Fine Arts Building.
The building was designed to reflect the arts within it. On the right side of the photo above, you will find traditional architectural elements, such as brick, which is a reflection of the traditional arts taught inside it, including drawing, photography, painting, and art history. The left side includes more industrial elements, which are a nod to the furniture and jewelry making programs, sculpture, and more.
Students taking studio classes in the Windgate Center of Art + Design can gain access to the building 24/7 using their Trojan ID card. Each class is provided a code in order to enter the classroom and work on projects outside of class time.
In our computer labs, you will find new technology with the editing software needed for graphic designers and photographers.
Since art history books can be expensive, our students have access to the Reading Room and its volumes of books and resources.
The hallways are informal art gallery spaces where students can display art or create it between classes on the chalkboards. Each floor has its own chalkboard, which indicates the floor number.
There are several gallery spaces within the building, and exhibits are changed throughout the year like an art museum. Students can meet the artists at the gallery openings and often learn from them through artist lectures. Student works are also exhibited here.
Artist lectures take place in the first-floor Lecture Hall. Throughout the building, students will find spaces to come together to create a community and discuss their work.
The visual arts building was funded by a $20.3 million grant award approved by the Trustees of the Windgate Charitable Foundation, headquartered in Siloam Springs, Ark. The grant, designated for building construction and equipment, was the second-largest gift in UA Little Rock’s history.
This building is among the finest higher education facilities in the country for visual arts education.
Reynolds Center for Business and Economic Development
The Reynolds Center for Business and Economic Development is located on the corner of South University Avenue and West 28th Street. The classrooms were built to hold no more than 30 students, so business majors have the benefit of small class sizes.
