Rehab Profs Honored by National Group

Assistant Professors Tresvil Pack and Gary M. Szirony of UALR’s Department of Counseling, Adult and Rehabilitation Education (CARE) have received research awards from the National Rehabilitation Association of Job Placement and Development for their paper being published in Work: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment, and Rehabilitation.

Their article, “Predictors of competitive employment among persons with physical and sensory disabilities: An evidence-based model,” found that people served by the state-federal rehabilitation system who received job placement services were greater than 380 percent more likely to attain competitive employment than those not receiving job placement services.

Pack also received one of four of the association’s President’s Awards this month for his service as program chair of the annual training conference in both 2008 and 2009.

“In both years we have had the best attendance at an NRA conference in many years – just over 300 in 2008 and over 330 in 2009 – and a large part of the increased attendance is due to an improved program,” Pack said.

He also serves the Arkansas state chapter of NRA as president elect and the Rehabilitation Counselors and Educators Association – a division of NRA – as treasurer.
