UALR Galleries Present Fall Exhibits

UALR’s Gallery Program presents “Forms Follows Function or Does It?” and “The Association for Creative Zoology,” along with senior exhibitions and an artist talk for the fall season.

Starting Oct. 14 through Dec. 10, Gallery I will feature “Forms Follows Function or Does It?” The art included will explore how contemporary designers use various materials in traditional and nontraditional ways to create unique contemporary craft. Small metals and blacksmithing, functional ceramics, fibers constructions, and furniture design will be featured in the group exhibition.

Gallery II is hosting “The Association for Creative Zoology” by Beauvais Lyons, director of the Hokes Archives at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, through Nov. 20. The project is a work of mock-documentation.

Responding to the evolution theory and intelligent design, Lyons created an exhibition offering a lesson in skepticism and encourages viewers to reflect on the ways that art and science, myth and reality, and truth and fiction intersect.

Gallery III will feature three sets of senior exhibitions. The first set will be featured Oct. 31 through Nov. 10, with seniors Pam Corzine in graphic design, Brittany Hallmark in graphic design, and Katelyn Cartwright in drawing. The next set will include Sara Maxim in photography, Jacob Anthony Nevill in graphic design, Kari Austin in photography, and Kristi Kelch in painting Nov. 13 to 23. The final set of exhibitions will include Nicole Sample in painting, Jennifer Fitzhugh in ceramics, LaToya Hobbs in painting, and Kristen Wright in graphic design Nov. 30 through Dec. 10.

On Oct. 27, there will be an artist talk at 5:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts Building, Room 157 featuring artists from the areas of ceramics, furniture design, metals, and fibers, along with Judith Duff, a studio potter from North Carolina.

The galleries are located in the Fine Arts Building on the UALR campus. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
