UALR Hosts International BioNanoTox Conference

Nationally- and internationally-known scientists in the fields of biology, nanotechnology, toxicology, and applications research will convene in Little Rock Oct. 21 to 22 for the 4th BioNanoTox and Applications Research Conference.

Little Rock Mayor will open the conference with a welcome to the delegates at 9 a.m. Wednesday, at the Monday, Oct. 21, at the Little Rock Convention Center’s Governor William S. Fulton Hall, followed by an opening address by Dr. Thomas J. Flammang, associate director of the Office of Research at the National Center for Toxicologic Research.

“This is a unique conference that brings together scientists from academia, industry, and finance,” said Dr. Olga Tarasenko, assistant professor of biology in UALR’s College of Science and Mathematics. “The BioNanoTox Conference lies at the interface of a variety of disciplines ranging from biology and chemistry, toxicology, computational sciences, mathematics, engineering, nanotechnology, and biotechnology.” She and Parimal Chowdhury, Ph.D., of UAMS co-chair the conference.

The conference aims to deepen the relationship between different institutions and spur new business prospects, international grant submissions, establishment of scientific collaborations, and possibly develop student exchange programs.

The conference will recognize the efforts of high school, undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral researchers who make significant contributions in biology, chemistry, nanotechnology, bioinformatics, statistics,  toxicology, medicine, and diagnostics.
