The UALR Rwandan Scholars Organization is hosting an educational and commemorative service from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8, in Dickinson Hall Auditorium to remember the 1994 genocide that wracked their African country 16 years ago.

The genocide in Rwanda resulted in the systematic massacre of more than 800,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus in less than 100 days.

The remembrance will communicate historical background about Rwanda, a screening of the documentary “As We Forgive” by Lara Waters Hinson, and a panel discussion in which audience members will be invited to participate.

Members of UALR’s Rwandan community will be invited to share their personal testimonies.
