Associate Professor Stephen L. Recken, a member of UALR’s History faculty since 1989, died Tuesday following a lengthy illness.

He was director of the Public History Program for 15 years as a teacher and active participant in community affairs.

“Stephen earned the respect, gratitude, and affection of all whose lives he touched,” said his colleague, Dr. Thomas Kaiser.  “He will be sorely missed.”

A celebration of Recken’s life will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 20, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 1000 N. Mississippi St., with the Rev. Danny Shieffler officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the UALR History Institute.
