Workshop to Teach Concrete Casting

The UALR Applied Design program is holding a concrete casting for furniture workshop from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Nov. 13 and 14, teaching participants how to build a melamine mold and to pour concrete. Each participant will design and cast his or her own piece.

The applied design faculty members who will be leading the workshop will also cover the technical aspects of mixing, pouring, vibrating, and floating the casting, as well as finishing techniques. The workshop will cover the use of inclusions, decorative aggregates, texture, colors and unusual shapes.

The workshop will be held at the UALR Applied Design facility at University Plaza Suite 300. The workshop is free and open to the public, but material costs are approximately $20 and space is limited. The workshop will fill on a first-come, first-served basis.

Upcoming applied design workshops include a silk painting workshop Saturday, Dec. 4, and a pewter construction workshop on Saturday, Jan. 22.
