Dean Sewall Elected to National Board
Angela Maynard Sewall, dean of UALR’s College of Education, has been elected to a three-year term as a member of the board of directors of the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education.
She will serve from March 2011 through February 2014.
AACTE is a national alliance of educator preparation programs dedicated to the highest quality professional development of teachers and school leaders in order to enhance pre-kindergarten through 12th grade student learning.
AACTE members come from private, public, research, land grant, historically black and Hispanic institutions.
Sewall, who has been the dean of education at UALR since 1997, is also active in educational policy in other venues including her roles as a member and deans’ representative on the board of the Reading Recovery Council of North America, vice chair of the Unit Accreditation Board of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education and a member of the NCATE Executive Board.
She is a lead partner in the Arkansas Partnership for Teacher Quality (ArTQP), a national initiative for teacher quality, student learning and data quality supported by grants from AACTE and the National Education Association.
Sewall has been a professor at UALR since 1992. Prior to that time, she worked for educational change and student learning in the Little Rock School District for 22 years, as a teacher, principal, and associate superintendent.
