Gallery to Host Printmaking Exhibit
UALR’s Gallery I will host a traveling exhibit, “Advancing Tradition: 20 Years of Printmaking at Flatbed Press,” from July 10 to Oct. 2 in the Fine Arts Building.
Ranging from small-scale minimalist abstractions to enormous figurative scenes, the prints in the exhibit explore the diversity and technological changes that have shaped contemporary art.
Katherine Brimberry, co-founder of Flatbed Press, will discuss the exhibit at 1:40 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, in the Stella Boyle Smith Concert Hall in the Fine Arts Building.
Since 1989, Flatbed Press in Austin, Texas, has actively participated in the printmaking revolution, inventing new techniques while improving on older, traditional methods. One example is a wood cut “Night Vision” by James Surls.
The traveling exhibition was organized by Exhibits USA.
The wide-ranging selection of examples in the exhibit, “Advancing Tradition,” demonstrate three basic aspects of current printmaking: the uniqueness of the medium, the combination of new technologies with old, and the crucial role of collaboration.
The galleries are open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday. For more information, contact Brad Cushman at 501-569-8977.
