Health Fair Welcomes UD Neighbors

Mayor Mark Stodola will help kick off the UALR Growing Healthy Communities Fall Wellness Fair at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Donaghey Student Center and recognize a new opportunity for residents of the University District to get fit.

Students, faculty, staff, and University District neighbors can complete a brief health assessment with blood pressure, weight, BMI, and overall fitness evaluated. The first 25 people to attend will receive a free goodie bag.

Hours of the fair are:
Sept. 15 — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. & 4 to 7 p.m.
Sept. 16 — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Sept. 17 — 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The three-day fair offers an opportunity for residents of the University District — including the Oak Forest and Broadmoor neighborhoods — to register for a free year membership to the UALR fitness center. The offer is part of the Growing Healthy Communities initiative from the Arkansas Coalition for Obesity Prevention.

The free membership includes top-of-the-line weight-assist and free-weight equipment, cardio-fitness training equipment, the indoor track and outdoor metric trail; aquatic center, basketball and racquetball courts, locker rooms, group fitness classes and more.

Residents must be 16 years or older and have proof of residence and a photo ID to register to participate in the fair. To register for the gym membership, contact Janea Snyder at udresidents@gmail.com or 501-952-2322.
