UALR Salutes Veterans
Students from UALR’s ROTC program will raise the stars and stripes at 9 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11, honoring all who serve and have served in the U.S. military on this Veterans Day.
The annual ceremony will be held at the UALR flag pole just outside the Facilities Management Building. A reception will follow in room 113 in the Administration South Building.
Lt. Col. James Treece, deputy chief of staff for engineering for the Arkansas Army National Guard, will be the guest speaker. He began his military career in March 1981 enlisting in Bravo Company of Second Battalion, 153rd Infantry at Augusta, Ark.
Treece was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1991 after completing officer candidate school. He has completed numerous command and staff assignments at the company, battalion and brigade levels throughout his career.
In 2008, Treece served as Battalion Commander of the 217th Brigade Support Battalion during a tour in Iraq supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.
“Please plan to take a few minutes to honor our student, faculty, and staff veterans on this special day set aside to remember all who have served and continue to serve our great country,” said Gail Siddell Nelson, interim coordinator of UALR’s Office of Veteran Affairs.
