UALR Fitness Offers Punk Rope Training
Fitness trainers, personal trainers, fitness enthusiasts, and school physical education teachers are invited to the UALR campus Saturday, March 17, and Sunday, March 18, for a workshop on Punk Rope, a total fitness program for kids and adults that uses simple jump rope moves to improve physical health.
Naomi Fletcher, coordinator of fitness at UALR’s Office of Campus Life, said the workshop will be presented by Tim Haft and Shana Brady, creators of the fitness program, which is a playful cross between recess and boot camp. The combination of themed workouts, creative calisthenics, fitness games, and rope jumping promises to “incinerate” calories.
“Professional exercisers are the main target group for the workshop, but anyone interested in fitness is encouraged to attend,” Fletcher said. “Previous fitness experience is not required.”
Participants can earn national and international exercise training certification as well as lifetime certification to teach Punk Rope.
From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, March 17, at the Fitness Center in UALR’s Donaghey Student Center, participants will learn how to use the Punk Rope method to teach anybody to jump rope in four steps and teach 24 or more rope-jumping moves to improve agility, coordination, speed, power, and endurance. It also will teach fitness games and partner drills that can make boring, run-of-the-mill calisthenics creative and fun.
The workshop continues from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, March 18, with instruction on how to use jump ropes for maximum fitness. From 2 to 5 p.m., the focus shifts to teaching Punk Rope for kids, which blends rope jumping with high-intensity games.
The cost of the workshop is $169 per person for Punk Rope if you register before Friday, Feb. 24, and $209 after that date. Maximum Fitness and Punk Rope for Kids are $89 each. Participants may register for each workshop individually. To register, visit the Punk Rope Website.
