UALR Senior Wins Two Chemistry Awards

Jessica Hartman of Conway, a UALR senior majoring in chemistry, was a two-time winner at the recent Arkansas Academy of Science at Southern Arkansas University.

She won first place in the Undergraduate Research Oral Presentations category and second place overall in the Undergraduate Research Poster Presentations category.

Hartman has also received the UALR American Chemical Society Award for Outstanding Graduating Senior.

“Jessica is a very dedicated and outstanding young chemist. She continues to impress our UALR faculty with her enthusiasm and exceptional performance in her class work and in the research lab,” said Dr. Jeffrey Gaffney, chair of the chemistry department.

“She was awarded the Darryl Reach Fellowship from our department due to her strong academic efforts and has been doing very high-level research here under the direction of Dr. Jerry Darsey. She also works with folks at UAMS,” he said.

Hartman has been accepted into graduate school at UAMS and will begin attending classes there in the fall.
