Dr. Mary Lowe Good, founding dean of UALR’s Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology, is among the ranks of leading women in chemistry featured in a recent television documentary.

The Chemical Heritage Foundation partnered with WHYY in Philadephia to present the hour-long television segment based on The Catalyst Film Series: Women in Chemistry.

The segment, “Lessons from Life and the Laboratory,” followed Good and seven other women to celebrate their life-changing, chance-taking, thrill-seeking love of science. The documentary aired in honor of Women’s History Month on March 27 and was followed by a televised panel discussion with Good and the other women featured.

Dr. Good is former president of the American Chemical Society, undersecretary for technology in the U.S. Department of Commerce under President Bill Clinton, and recipient of the Priestley Medal.

She earned her Ph.D. and M.S. in chemistry from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville and her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas.

The other featured women included:

• Nancy Chang, co-founder and former CEO of the bio-pharmaceutical firm Tanox
• Uma Chowdhry, retired senior vice president and chief science and technology officer of DuPont
• Mildred Cohn, first female president of the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
• Kathryn Hach-Darrow, cofounder of the Hach Chemical Company and the only woman to receive CHF’s Pittcon Heritage Award
• Paula Hammond, David H. Koch Professor in engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology
• Stephanie Kwolek, former research associate at DuPont and inventor of Kevlar
• Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw, founder, chairman, and managing director of Biocon Limited
