Services scheduled for Dr. Trice, UALR professor emeritus
A memorial service is scheduled for Dr. Ethel Preston Trice, professor emeritus of Health Education at UALR, who recently passed away.
The service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Little Rock, under the direction of Ruebel Funeral Home of Little Rock.
Dr. Trice was born Aug. 12, 1921, in New Orleans, and received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Louisiana State University. She earned her doctor of education degree from George Peabody College for Teachers.
Active for many years in professional and civic organizations at the national, district, state and local levels, Trice served on the governing board of the Association for the Advancement of Health Education.
Trice was president of the following organizations: Arkansas School Health Association, Arkansas Association of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, and the American Lung Association of Arkansas.
She was a member of the state board of directors of the American Association of University of Women and Alpha Delta Kappa. She was also a member of the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness and the state executive council of the Arkansas Public Health Association.
She was honored with a service award from Virginia Polytechnic Institute where she was a distinguished lecturer in 1970.
She was also a fellow and member of the Research Council of the American School Health Association and served on American Health Association committees.
At the district level, Trice was the president of the 13-state Southern District of the American Alliance of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in 1970-71. She was secretary of the Southeastern Area Advisory Council of the American Red Cross from 1966 through 1969.
