Trojan champs return to homecoming welcome

UALR Women return home from the NCAA tournament

Fans turned out in droves Tuesday afternoon to welcome back the UALR Trojan women’s basketball team and their coaches.

Carrying several signs that conveyed heartfelt messages of pride and Trojan spirit, about 100 fans gathered outside the Jack Stephens Center to shout their praises as the basketball team, pep band, and dance team de-boarded their buses.

On Monday night, the Trojans battled defiantly against No. 3 seed Arizona State, only to succumb with a 57-54 loss at Wells Fargo Arena in Tempe, Ariz.

The women led by as many as 16 points during the game and held a 50-44 lead with less than three minutes to play, but Arizona State closed the game on a 13-4 run to pull out a home court victory.

Trojan signsThis year saw Little Rock’s Team breaking the mark with 18 conference wins and 29 overall wins. The team suffered only five losses, the fewest in school history.

In addition, Coach Joe Foley earned his 700th career victory on Saturday against Texas A&M in the NCAA First Round.
