UALR to honor SUPER program participants
Top performers in a program designed to give future entrepreneurs a taste of graduate research will be honored Wednesday, Aug. 5, during a ceremony at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.
Scholars from UALR’s Summer Undergraduate Program of Entrepreneurship and Research (SUPER) also will present their projects from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4, in the Engineering and Information Technology Building, Room 203.
UALR faculty will judge those presentations, and participants with the top three scores will be recognized during the College of Engineering and Information Technology SUPER Program Research Day at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the EIT auditorium.
The Research Day schedule includes keynote speaker state Rep. Warwick Sabin, who is slated to discuss, “Creating a SUPER future for Arkansas through innovation and entrepreneurship.”
SUPER is a 2.5-month undergraduate research and entrepreneurship program in its fourth year at UALR. It’s designed for undergraduates studying engineering, physics, computer science, information science and other science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields.
Those selected for the program through a competitive process work with mentors on engineering or information technology projects while receiving: a $1,300 monthly stipend, free on-campus housing, an opportunity to meet some of the state’s leading entrepreneurs, and a chance to earn a bonus and prize money.
This year’s program has 12 participants, including seven from UALR, two from Harding University in Searcy, one from the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, one from the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, and one from the University of Memphis (Tenn.).
