During the event, the Little Rock-based chapter will present special awards to Dr. Joel E. Anderson, UALR chancellor; Dr. Tom Courtway, University of Central Arkansas president; Dr. Luis Fernando Restrepo, assistant vice chancellor of diversity and community world languages, literature, and culture at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville; and other distinguished LULAC supporters.

The banquet is held annually and sponsored by LULAC Council 750 Little Rock. This year, 47 students are receiving scholarships.

LULAC uses proceeds from the annual banquet and a Cinco de Mayo Festival to fund scholarships for Latino college students, perform citizenship and voter registration drives, and conduct youth leadership training programs. LULAC seeks to empower the Latino community at the local, state, and national level through its seven chartered Arkansas councils.

The organization serves Latinos of all national origins and focuses heavily on education, civil rights, and employment. LULAC Council 750 Little Rock has awarded about $700,000 in college scholarships to 280 students.
