UALR fills key leadership position
The University of Arkansas at Little Rock turned to a familiar leader to become its new vice chancellor for finance and administration.
UALR Chancellor Joel E. Anderson announced today that Steven J. McClellan accepted an offer and will start in the key leadership position on March 1.
“I am really pleased that Steve McClellan is returning to UALR to head the division of Finance and Administration,” Anderson said. “We know him well. Steve understands and deeply values the UALR mission, and he brings decades of experience in managing financial issues, budgets, and processes for the betterment of students. He will be a major asset to the university.”
McClellan is currently vice president for finance and administration/CFO of his alma mater, Cleveland, Miss.-based Delta State University.
In addition to finance and administration at UALR, McClellan will oversee areas including human relations, facilities management, public safety, information technology, and procurement.
“I am extremely excited about the opportunity to return to UALR to make what I see as my final career move where I can continue my service to higher education and the university,” McClellan said. “I look forward to moving back to Little Rock with my family and reconnecting with colleagues and the community.”
He will replace Charles L. Cansler III, who left UALR to accept a position in industry.
McClellan previously served as UALR’s associate vice chancellor for finance from 2007 to 2013. During that time, he was responsible for multiple business operations of the university, including payroll, general accounting, and purchasing. He also supervised the treasury, Bursar’s Office and mail services.
Prior to his stint at UALR, McClellan served nearly 25 years at Northwest Mississippi Community College, holding various accounting, business, and leadership roles, including 13 years as vice president for fiscal affairs.
McClellan earned both his bachelor’s and MBA from Delta State University.
He and Ladye Ann, his wife of 30 years, have two adult children.
