The University of Arkansas at Little Rock will offer free screenings for eating disorders from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 24-25 in the Donaghey Student Center and the Donald W. Reynolds Center for Business and Economic Development.

“We want to highlight that eating disorders are really out there,” said Dr. Mike Kirk, director of counseling services. “We really and truly want to advertise that Counseling Services is here to help and support students.”

Participants of the screening will take an Eating Attitudes Test (EAT-26) and have their results scored. EAT-26 is one of the most widely-used standardized assessments to measure symptoms and concerns characteristic of eating disorders. The assessment takes about two minutes to complete.

Students who take the assessment are eligible to win a free oil change from Discount Tire & Brake or a gift certificate for 10 free yoga sessions at Barefoot Studio.

During the screening, a clinician and a dietitian from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Psychiatric Research Institute’s Eating Disorders Clinic will offer support and score tests.

The UAMS Eating Disorders Clinic provides individual therapy every week, as well as group therapy.

Emily Durham, a licensed professional counselor from the Employee Assistance Program, also will be present to promote the benefits UALR employees can receive through counseling services.

“We just want people to know that we are here to help,” Kirk said.

The screening is made possible by Counseling Services, the School of Social Work, the Department of Nursing, the Student Social Work Organization, and the Student Nurse Association.
