UA Little Rock professor to serve on editorial board of well-known health publication

A University of Arkansas at Little Rock professor and leading health education researcher was recently appointed to the editorial board of a renowned health publication.

Dr. Amar Kanekar, associate professor and graduate program coordinator for health education and health promotion, was selected by members of the American Public Health Association to serve on the editorial board of the American Journal of Public Health. Kanekar’s appointment will run for three years, beginning Nov. 8, 2017.

The American Journal of Public Health, founded more than 100 years ago, was established to advance public health research, policy, practice, and education in the United States. Board members provide direction and give advice to the journal’s editors and staff, review policy issues on topics such as ethics and publishing priorities, and review the journal’s budget to provide funding recommendations.

Kanekar’s high level of involvement in health education and expertise in epidemiology and biostatistics, public health education, and internal medicine, were significant reasons for his appointment.

“With over 20 years in the field, he is an excellent addition to the editorial board,” said Heather Reed, assistant dean and director of advising and support center. “The School of Counseling, Human Performance & Rehabilitation in the College of Education and Health Professions is extremely proud of Dr. Kanekar’s contributions to UA Little Rock.”
