Join the University of Arkansas at Little Rock Department of Philosophy to hear the philosophical analysis of America’s first multiracial riot from guest speaker Dr. Sina Kramer during her presentation of “How to Hear a Riot,” on Tuesday Oct. 24.

The free event will take place from 1:40 to 2:55 p.m. in Ottenheimer Library Room 535 and is open to all UA Little Rock community members.

Kramer, an author and associate professor at Loyola Marymount University in California, will discuss the political facets of the 1992 Los Angeles riot as referenced in her upcoming novel, “Excluded Within: The (Un)Intelligibility of Radical Political Actors.”

Using the framework of constitutive exclusion, Kramer will describe how those who were excluded from the political body during the 1992 riot due to issues of race, gender, and associated factors, challenged political restraint, and in turn were deemed threatening and criminal. Based on extensive research, she will suggest ways in which the excluded can be heard based on the reconstruction of the political body.
