UA Little Rock, UAMS to present Biomedical Informatics Discovery Day

High school, undergraduate, and graduate students interested in learning about careers and educational opportunities in biomedicine are encouraged to attend the Biomedical Informatics Discovery Day on Saturday, Nov. 4.

The University of Arkansas at Little Rock George W. Donaghey College of Engineering and Information Technology will partner with the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences to host the event. The discovery day is scheduled to run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the first floor of the Donald W. Reynolds Institute on Aging on the UAMS campus.

“This one-day event is meant to give students an overview of the career opportunities available at UA Little Rock and UAMS, and a taste of what it is like to work in this field,” said Dr. Elizabeth Pierce, chair of the Department of Information Science at UA Little Rock.

To start the career day, students will get an overview of positions available in biomedicine, followed by a lunch with academic advisers from UA Little Rock and UAMS.

During this time, students will have the opportunity to ask questions about the university’s programs and inquire about the educational route necessary to start a biomedical career after graduation. The final session of the day will cover specialty areas within the biomedical field and offer demonstrations of the problem-solving skills required.

Registration for the event is free. For more information, contact Pierce at expierce@ualr.edu or register online.
