Hicks Honored in Arkansas Press Women Communications Contest
Olivia Hicks, a sophomore at UA Little Rock from East End, has been recognized in the Arkansas Press Women 2022 Communications Contest.
Hicks, a double major in mass communication and professional and technical writing, received second place in Collegiate/Education Feature Writing for her story, “UA Little Rock’s Cybersecurity Club Highlighted in Celebration of National Cybersecurity Awareness Month.”
She wrote the story in October 2021 as part of her work as a student worker in the Office of Communications and Marketing at UA Little Rock. The judges described the story as “a very well-written piece” that “captured the reader’s attention in the lead and kept it throughout.”
“I was so excited when I found out that my story placed in the contest,” Hicks said. “I’m very proud of this story, especially since it was the first one I wrote for the university this year, but getting such great feedback from professionals in the field makes me feel like I’m doing a good job and reminds me why I love what I do so much.”
