CARE Profs Shine at Recent International Conference

Dr. Pat Smith, professor in UALR’s Department of Counseling, Adult, and Rehabilitation Education (CARE), co-presented a general session at the International Conference of the Association for Education and Rehabilitation (AER) of the Blind and Visually Impaired titled, “Teamwork: Meeting Multiple, Diverse Needs by Sharing and Learning.”

In addition, Smith was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award presented by the Vision Rehabilitation Therapy Division of AER at the conference held July 22 in Little Rock.

Also during the conference, Dr. Bill Jacobson, chair of the Department of CARE, facilitated a panel discussion titled, “Certification, Licensure and Code of Ethics Update.” He also hosted a UALR Alumni Reception that attracted approximately 100 former students and faculty of the Rehabilitation of the Blind Programs.

The conference attracted 801 professional educators, rehabilitation personnel, and faculty from throughout the U.S., Canada, Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world. It was the first time the organization has held its conference in Arkansas.
