UALR Supports United Way Campaign

UALR is supporting the community by investing in the Heart of Arkansas United Way’s annual campaign.

One gift to the United Way supports more than 100 programs in 39 local health and human service agencies that provide job training, hot meals, shelter, and other services to those facing difficult times. These programs help one out of three people in the community.

One dollar per week will provide:

  • 70 after-school snacks for homeless children and diapers and formula for 10 babies at The Centers for Youth and Families
  • Lodging and meals for four people for a week at the Salvation Army
  • Medical transportation for one low-income senior for a year through Senior Citizens Activities Today
  • Two memberships to the Boys and Girls Club
  • Three suits for someone placed on a new job via Goodwill Industries of Arkansas
  • 365 pounds of food for St. Francis House
  • 25 exercise sessions at the Arthritis Foundation
  • Baby formula for one infant for a month at Our House
  • 260 meals through the Arkansas Foodbank
  • Infirmary supplies for Camp Aldersgate Respite weekends
  • One week at summer camp for an underprivileged youth through the Boy Scouts Quapaw Council
  • One child enrolled in Big Brothers Big Sisters
  • Childcare for one disabled child for a month at Francis A. Allen School for Exceptional Children
  • One week of groceries for someone recovering from a disaster through the Red Cross of Greater Arkansas

United Way donors now have the option of designating contributions to any 501(c)(3) nonprofit agency, such as KUAR/KLRE public radio stations. Donors may also choose to designate pledges to a United Way in another community. United Way staff will ensure that donations are directed to the designated agency or United Way.

Last year, 92 UALR staff and faculty members gave $24,680 to the United Way campaign. This year’s goal is for 100 employees to contribute a total of $26,000.

UALR employees should receive a packet in campus mail and are asked to submit the enclosed pledge form to the Office of Communications by Monday, Nov. 21. Staff and faculty members may utilize payroll deduction or submit cash or a check for their pledges. The first 20 people who turn in their forms will receive a prize.
