A University of Arkansas at Little Rock professor has been appointed to a national accrediting board for interpreter education programs in universities.

Dr. Glenn Anderson, assistant professor of the American Sign Language and English Interpreter Education program at UALR, has been appointed as commissioner to the Commission on Collegiate Interpreter Education, the national accrediting board for interpreter education programs.

The goal of the board is to promote professionalism in the field of sign language interpreter education. This is done through the process of accreditation of professional preparation programs, development and revision of interpreter education standards, encouragement of excellence in program development, and the application of knowledge, skills, and ethics in the profession.

As commissioner, Anderson has been appointed to a three-year term from Oct. 1, 2016, to Sept. 30, 2017.

In this role, he will review applicants’ self-study program reports and rate how well the applying program meets the commission’s accreditation standards. He is also expected to travel to an applying program’s campus and conduct onsite reviews based on what is included in the applicant’s self-study report.
