Dr. Barton Westerlund, former director of the Industrial Research and Extension Center at UALR from 1962 to 1984, died Saturday, Jan. 22. He was 89. A former chair of the Department of Marketing and Advertising, Westerlund was a professor of economics and marketing until his retirement in 1990.

Dr. Lars Powell, UALR Whitbeck Chair of Insurance and Financial Services and associate professor of finance, presented results from his research on credit based insurance scoring to the Association of Insurance Compliance Professionals annual conference in Dallas last month.
UALR Professor Rolf Wigand’s manuscript, “Virtual Wealth Protection through Virtual Money Exchange,” co-authored with Dr. Jingzhi Guo from the University of Macau has been accepted to the journal Electronic Commerce Research and Applications.
