Michelle Marshall Q&A

How did you get started in the University Career Services profession?
I am a proud alumna of UA Little Rock, where I interned in University Career Services during my graduate studies. This experience directed my path toward higher education, where I have served in various roles including Residence Life Coordinator, Freshman Colloquium Instructor, Lead Enrollment Specialist, and Success Coach. With 14 years of experience in higher education, I am enjoying a full-circle moment as I assist both students and alumni at UA Little Rock. My focus is on both professional and personal development, helping students to understand themselves, build confidence in their identities, and navigate their paths to success.

Describe a “typical workday” in University Career Services.
At times students can find navigating a career path a bit overwhelming, so I dedicate a significant portion of my time to helping students and alumni with resume creation, career exploration, job search techniques, and interview preparation. I also support the University Career Services Director by assisting with various tasks such as outreach to faculty and employers, organizing workshops and job fairs, and maintaining records.

What do you enjoy doing when you are not working?
I’m a genuine ambivert who appreciates balance. I relish activities that help me relax and recharge. My interests vary from watching TED Talks and visiting theaters, to bowling and browsing social media. I cherish environments that blend urban and natural elements, like the Riverfront. My life maintains a healthy equilibrium between nurturing connections with family and friends, and enjoying quiet times, whether I’m cleaning my house or just unwinding.

What is the most interesting place you have ever visited?
I traveled to Washington D.C., where I had the opportunity to explore the capital and its many historical museums. The highlight of the trip was a surprise birthday party thrown by my friends, making it especially memorable. Even after many years, this remains one of my most treasured memories.

What do you like best about living in Central Arkansas?
I’m a native of Central Arkansas, and I’m particularly drawn to the perfect mix of natural landscapes and urban amenities. The area’s cultural scene is flourishing, and accompanied by a lively sense of community.
