Campus Safety Awareness Month is an initiative to promote safety awareness to the campus community. During the month, the Division of Student Affairs, Office of Title IX, and Department of Public Safety will utilize the opportunity to remind the campus community about safety issues and ways community members can protect themselves. The cooperation, involvement, and support of faculty, staff, and students are crucial to the success of Campus Safety Awareness Month.

Monday, Sept. 8 One Pill Can Kill
Noon – 1 pm | DSC Ledbetter Rooms

This program raises awareness of the danger of fentanyl. Come learn about Narcan and other ways to avoid the dangers of fentanyl. This free training will be provided in small groups, lasting no more than 45 minutes. Please join us and register at ualr.at/narcan.

Tuesday, Sept. 9 – University Police Department (UPD) Meet and Greet
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. | DSC Foyer

Students, faculty, and staff are invited to meet DPS police officers and other emergency responders for our campus community. DPS will distribute safety tips for the campus and will promote the Trojan Safety App.

Wednesday, Sept. 10 – Suicide Prevention Awareness Table

September 10th is slated as World Suicide Prevention Day around the globe. Every year, attention is drawn to this critical public health issue by focusing efforts on directing treatment to those who need it most and remembering those affected by suicide. Students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to come learn more about suicide prevention.

Thursday, Sept. 18 – Myth Busters: Sex Edition

Join us for a fun, interactive event where we break down common myths about sex and talk openly about safe practices in a positive, judgment-free space. Come play games, learn something new, and win prizes!  

Tuesday, Sept. 23 – Sexual Health and Safety Awareness Table
11 a.m. – 1 p.m. |  DSC Foyer

Students are invited to this tabling event to learn about sexual health and ways to prevent sexually transmitted infections, including HIV/AIDS.

Tuesday, Sept. 23 – Self-Defense 101
1 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. |  DSC Ledbetter Rooms

This program will be facilitated by Diana Strong, a certified self-defense instructor. All students are invited to learn basic self-defense techniques.

Tuesday, Sept. 23 – Swipe Right: Navigating Dating Apps, Online Sexual Harassment, and Digital Consent

Join us for an informative workshop to discuss the importance of utilizing technology safely during relationships and gaining consent for sexual activity that happens through screens.

Tuesday, Sept. 30 – Active Shooter Preparedness (In-Person Training)
1 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. |  DSC Ledbetter Rooms

Facilitated by the Department of Public Safety (DPS), this training program is designed to teach realistic strategies for dealing with an active shooter situation on campus.
