The University of Arkansas at Little Rock has established the University’s new Multicultural Center in the Division of Student Affairs and has hired Mia D. M. Phillips as the director, effective October 1, 2018.

The mission of the UA Little Rock Multicultural Center is to support all students at UA Little Rock by providing culturally-responsive programming and education to promote student success, personal growth, and a culture of respect and inclusion.

Dr. Phillips stated that her goal is to move students to a point where they think of inclusion, respect, and equity as the standard, not just diversity. “Ultimately, it’s not enough to have people from diverse backgrounds on campus if we are not appreciating, accepting, and respectful of the diversity we have,” Phillips said. “We must continue to lead on issues of equity and inclusion in central Arkansas and beyond.

Dr. Phillips is an alumnus of UA Little Rock, earning both her doctorate and master’s degrees.  She earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Central Arkansas.  A native of El Dorado, Arkansas she and her husband, Jonathan, have two children.
