A Seat at the Table: 3 Plays on U.S. Life and Other Matters
March 3, 2020 at 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm
A Seat at the Table is a staged reading of three plays about family, America, and alternative experiences that open up new perspectives on gender, race, and ethnicity, sexuality, culture, power, and life in the U.S., featuring UA Little Rock students, produced by the Department of Theatre Arts and Dance, and directed by Lawrence D. Smith. The three plays are:
- Elliot, A Soldier’s Fugue presents a lyrical and poignant account of three generations of military service within a Puerto Rican family.
- Hir is an hysterical tragicomedy of suburban life in which a stay-at-home mom and her live-at-home transgender son upend the status quo of the nuclear family.
- Bootycandy is an outrageous and piquant comedy centered around the coming-of-age experiences of gay black playwright in a dysfunctional family and a dystopic world.
The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance would like to offer a complimentary ticket to UA Little Rock students, staff and faculty, who use the code “Celebrate Diversity” when ordering their ticket at the box office, which is located at the entrance to the Center for the Performing Arts, in room 130.
Please note: These plays are for mature audiences only, due to subject matter and explicit language.
Discussion begins at 6:45 PM; Play begins at 7:30 PM
