Building Bridges between College and Careers
Dr. Gary Geissler, professor of marketing and advertising, exemplifies the positive impact that an instructor can have on students. He consistently demonstrates genuine concern for and commitment to his students’ current learning and long-term welfare.
He developed a teaching model referred to as “The Five A’s Learning Model.” The model promotes a positive attitude, a sense of accountability, being active in class, applying marketing concepts to real business solutions, and becoming adaptable.
Another key teaching method Dr. Geissler has used is the client-based class project. He partners with organizations to provide students with hands-on, highly involved and memorable learning experiences. Toward the end of each semester, he gathers student feedback concerning their levels of satisfaction with the course and his instruction.
Dr. Geissler led efforts to develop UA Little Rock’s new promotion and tenure guidelines that were approved by the Faculty Senate in 2008. He was named an inaugural Teaching Fellow in the UA Little Rock Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence.
He has been the recipient of several awards, including the American Marketing Association’s Innovative Excellence in Marketing Education Award. Last year he was honored as one of only three finalists for the Sherwin-Williams Distinguished Teaching Award.
Dr. Geissler received a Ph.D. from the University of Georgia and M.B.A. and B.S. degrees from Louisiana State University at Shreveport.
