High Caliber Researcher in “Green” Chemistry
Dr. Anindya Ghosh has developed a national and international reputation for his research efforts in inorganic chemistry with particular emphasis on “green chemistry.” Dr. Ghosh has published a total of 35 articles in peer-reviewed journals (45 in total). Five additional articles are currently under review in various journals. In addition to these articles, he has published eight conference proceedings and/or featured articles. He has also been issued six patents and submitted an additional six patent applications which are still under review. He has been very active in submitting research proposals to various extramural agencies such as the NSF, NIH, DoE, DOD, PRF, and private industries. In 2012, the College of Science was awarded $400,000 from the NSF for the acquisition of 400 MHz NMR spectrometer, with Dr. Ghosh taking the role of principal investigator. In total, he has secured more than $1 million in funding from different agencies for his research. In addition, as a part of the VICTER (Vertically-Integrated Center for
Transformative Energy Research) team at UA Little Rock, he was able to secure $1.82 million in additional funding through the NSF-EPSCoR program. Dr. Ghosh’s work has led to a number of successes, which have application in the medical field, for UA Little Rock’s Center for Integrative Nanotechnology.
Dr. Ghosh’s real strength and advances have been made in the area of catalysis and green chemistry. Green chemistry is a general concept where the goal is to lower energy requirements, reduce chemical use of toxic materials, and in general accomplish synthetic goals with low cost and safe materials to produce a high quality product. Dr. Ghosh has been a leader in this area and has made significant advances using novel nickel, iron, and tin organometallic catalysts, and making use of reactions that can capture and make use of carbon dioxide.
Dr. Ghosh’s degrees include a Ph.D. in chemistry from Carnegie Mellon University, a M.S. in chemistry from the Indian Institute of Technology, and a B.Sc. in chemistry, with honors, from the University of Calcutta.
