Committed to Education
Dr. Gail Hughes is on a mission toward student-centered educational approaches that increase student retention rates based on university life. She routinely offers her expertise to support candidates needing statistical and methodological assistance and chairs dissertations, even though she is not required to do so.
Currently she is on the editorial board of the Journal of Education Research and Educational Technology, Research, and Development; is copy editor for Research in the Schools; a reviewer for the Educational Technology Research and Development Journal; and serves on the program committee for the Mid-South Educational Research Association.
As associate professor, she was an invited book discussant for UA Little Rock’s Academy for Teaching and Learning Excellence and is a part of the College of Education Dean’s Leadership Team, the UA Little Rock Institutional Review Board, the Faculty Senate, the Provost’s Assessment Advisory Group, and the UA Little Rock Teaching Academy Advisory Group.
In the community, Dr. Hughes works on the Little Rock Promise Neighborhood Project leading the Needs Assessment Report. She has consulted for the Arkansas Department of Education Office of Teacher Quality and evaluated educational programs in the Little Rock Schools District. She volunteers weekly as a tutor in several local schools.
Dr. Hughes received a Ph.D. from the University of Memphis and M.S.E. and B.S.E. degrees from Henderson State University.
