Arkansas Driver’s Licenses or ID Cards can be obtained from a local revenue office. Visit http://www.dfa.arkansas.gov/Pages/default.aspx for additional information.
Visitors with an international driver’s license or license from a foreign country have 30 days to receive an Arkansas Driver’s License.
What should I expect?
Part One: The Written Test
The driving permit requires a written test to assess the driver’s theoretical knowledge of U.S. traffic law. With the permit, the new driver can practice driving if accompanied by a licensed driver over 21.
Part Two: The Driving Test
After 30 days of practice, the driver can apply for a full driver’s license. This is a driving test, he or she will obtain an Arkansas Driver’s License. This license can be used throughout the 50 states.
How do I apply for a driver’s license?
One week before applying for your driver’s license, submit a request for a SEVIS Update. Select “Applying for Driver’s License.” An advisor will review your SEVIS record to make sure it is up-to-date and ready for your driver’s license request.
To Renew or Apply for a Driver’s License, Bring the following to the issuance office:
- Passport
- Activated I-20 or DS-2019
- Most recent I-94 cbp.gov/i94

Note: Students transferring to UA Little Rock or on OPT may have difficulty applying for a drivers license. See an advisor for more information.
Institute Additional Verification through SAVE
If a nonimmigrant’s status cannot be verified immediately, they may need to go through additional verification through SAVE. Ask for a SAVE case number and go online to SAVE Case check to see the estimated wait time. Please note, the phrase “Institute Additional Verification” refers to a government office, not ISS.
