Effective August 1, 2015, international student dependents will not be covered under the institutionally-approved insurance plan through LewerMark. F-2 dependents are not required to have health insurance coverage; however, they are advised to have health insurance coverage during their stay. In contrast, federal law (22 CRF 62.14) mandates J-2 dependents to maintain appropriate health insurance coverage during the duration of their stay in the US. To maintain active J-2 status, students must find an appropriate insurance coverage and provide proof of insurance coverage to the Office of International Student Services prior to the 11th day of class each semester.
