All F1 and J1 international students, as well as J1 visitors, are required to maintain health insurance coverage. J exchange visitors bringing J-2 dependents are also required by the Department of State to maintain sufficient health insurance coverage.

UA Little Rock offers health insurance coverage through LewerMark. This policy meets the minimum requirements set by the Department of State for J students and visitors. The rate for the 2025-2026 academic year is $888.00 per six months ($148.00 per month).

As of August 1, 2015, the LewerMark insurance plan does not include dependents (spouses or minor children).

Students who are sponsored by their home country’s government may provide proof of coverage to OISS to waive the UA Little Rock policy. Documentation of coverage must be in English, meet the requirements of the Department of State for J visa holders, and be submitted prior to the first day of class each semester. Proof of coverage must continue to be available upon request from International Student Services.

Visiting scholars sponsored by their home country’s government may provide proof of coverage purchased through their sponsoring agency. Documentation must be in English, meet the requirements of the Department of State for J visa holders, and be submitted at the time of application.
