Honor Society Earns National ‘Best Chapter’ for 4th Year
For the fourth year in a row, Iota Mu, the UALR chapter of the National Political Science Honor Society Pi Sigma Alpha, has won a national best chapter award for its on-campus and community activities designed to further excellence in political science and public service.
“The award is one of three given in the category of mid-sized universities with enrollments of 5,000 to 15,000, out of 700 chapters,” said Lorelei Gonzalez, president of the UALR chapter.
Since being chartered in 1979 by UALR’s Department of Political Science, the chapter has won six national awards, including a “Best in the Nation Advisor Award.”
The American Political Science Association recognized the UALR chapter at its national meeting and in its “PS” journal. The UALR chapter also received a certificate of recognition and a cash award of $250.
The national honor society seeks to promote excellence in the study of political science through a variety of programs, some of which directly benefits student members and local chapters and others promote the profession of political science. The programs provide awards, scholarships, and lecture funding, and other benefits for members, chapters, and political scientists and political science programs.
